Zeta meets Emerson alum Mike Martin ’89

This past Sunday, members of the Alpha Chapter of Zeta Phi Eta had a Business Tea with Mike Martin, an Emerson alumnus and brother of Alpha Pi Theta. With over 20 years of experience as a producer for television, Mike shared his insights on the workforce, the current state of the industry, and the Emerson experience. We had a fantastic time meeting Mike, and all members learned a great deal! Below is a photo of Mike with members.

What Zeta has done for me: Rushing Zeta was the best decision I made in college. Hands down. I found my closest friends in Zeta and established a family that has had my back through everything. Zeta has really helped me feel established and safe at Emerson whist giving me connections to launch myself professionally. Since parting from Boston, Zeta has stayed present and has continued to help me due to the abundance of alumni that are in Los Angeles. Even being 3000 miles away from anyone in my actual family, Zeta is here making sure that I am staying afloat.

What Zeta has done for me:  Zeta has allowed me to establish myself at Emerson and realize my ambitions in life. It was an outlet for me to meet people, become active at Emerson and the Boston community, as well as connect with professionals in a variety of industries to help me post-graduation. Most importantly, Zeta allowed me to become part of a family away from home. It was a group of people who mean the world to me and no matter how far away from each other, these are the people who will always be a part of your life.

What Zeta has done for me: Zeta has introduced me to some of my best friends and given me countless professional opportunities both at Emerson and outside of it. Through Zeta connections I have had the chance to intern at the Huntington Theatre Company, work on numerous film shoots, and have inside knowledge on how to find the internship I wanted in Los Angeles. It has also given me a great support system- especially when moving to LA.

What Zeta has done for me: Zeta gave me a family. Growing up I wasn’t extremely close with my parents or any of my siblings, and I left home relatively early to attend boarding school. Then in college I worked so much that I couldn’t always make it home for family gatherings and felt a pretty definite void where something substantial and consistent should be. On day one of pledging I knew what had been missing. Finally having a support system where I knew I could turn to any one of our members for anything, day or night, has been invaluable to me. My closest friends have come out of relationships I built in Zeta and I couldn’t be more thankful for them. When I have a question, I call a Zeta; when I need to borrow something, I call a Zeta; when I want to fill a job or pass on an opportunity, I call a Zeta. They’ve come over to my freezing, dark house at midnight to help me fix my circuit breaker, stayed on the phone with me until 2 in the morning because I wanted to figure out my life plan, and driven me across the country. Three times. I honestly couldn’t come up with anyone else in my life who would drop everything for me, and I’m beyond-words grateful to Zeta for putting those people in my life.
